Application for Admission
Application forms are available in the school office or on our website for Pre-kindergarten through Grade 8. It will be necessary to provide the following documents when applying:
- The original birth certificate and copy of Baptismal certificate for students in Pre-kindergarten through Grade 8.
- The most recent report card for all students attending another school.
- Available standardized test scores from previous school.
- All other data, including current health records, will be collected at the time of registration.
All students entering Kindergarten through Grade 8 will receive an assessment test. There is a $25 non-refundable fee for all assessments. Areas of consideration include the student’s maturity, skill level, behavior characteristics, parental commitment and cooperation.
An entrance examination, appropriate to grade level, will be administered to all students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Areas of consideration include the student’s maturity, skill level, behavior characteristics, parent commitment, and cooperation. In order to communicate a sound understanding of expectations, an informal interview will also be conducted with parents and students.
Admission PolicyOur Lady of Las Vegas School is a parish school, established and subsidized, in part, by the Our Lady of Las Vegas Parish Community. Therefore, the priority order for acceptance into our school is:
- Children of registered and contributing parishioners with siblings currently attending Our Lady of Las Vegas School.*
- Children of registered and contributing parishioners.*
- Children of non-parishioners who are meeting their responsibilities to the school and parish community as stated in the Parent/Student Handbook, and currently have siblings attending Our Lady of Las Vegas School.**
- Children from families moving to the Las Vegas area who have been attending a Catholic school elsewhere, and whose parents have registered in Our Lady of Las Vegas Parish.
- Children of non-parishioners.
Our Lady of Las Vegas maintains a disciplined Catholic school environment, therefore, each new student is accepted on a probationary standing. All new students will be carefully observed and monitored throughout the course of the school year. Dismissal could be warranted if a student exhibits serious behavioral or academic problems at any time during the course of the school year.
The faculty and staff of Our Lady of Las Vegas School recognize that parents are the primary educators of their children, and that the school serves as an extension of that responsibility. We take this responsibility seriously and endeavor to assist you in developing Catholic attitudes and behaviors as an integral part of your child’s growth process. Should misunderstandings arise between home and school, the first avenue of discussion should be with the school personnel directly involved (usually the classroom teacher or activity supervisor); he/she is the person best able to provide you with the facts. If, after discussion with the appropriate school personnel, the misunderstanding cannot be resolved by mutual agreement, please consult with the Principal.As stated above, the Catholic Church and this Catholic school recognize parents as the primary educators of their children. The education of students at our school is a partnership between parents and the school. If, in the opinion of the administration, the partnership is irretrievably broken, the school reserves the right to require the parent to withdraw his or her child. This is a very serious decision that is not made lightly.
Please keep in mind that your support of school policies, rules, and regulations is imperative and your child is to respect the authority and expertise of the school staff. This is essential if a positive learning environment is to exist.
